As part of the GATHER project I am inviting artists to submit a piece of which will be included in an online slideshow/film this summer as a major part of a body of work which considers plants and place.

To accompany the launch of the summer aspect of the GATHER, some of which will happen online, I will be curating a slideshow of visual art entitled GATHER: Plants in Place and which will be put together by artist Phil Illingworth. The slideshow will become part of my website, and may also be shown through partners in the project, both physically and online.

Plants support all life on this planet; Antennae Magazine considers that ‘our lack of interest in them is certainly linked to climate change and general environmental deterioration’, and that ‘Artists as well as scholars have the responsibility to move plants to the fore of their preoccupations and to investigate the historical and cultural networks that bind us to them.’

How we represent plants speaks volumes about our conceptions of their being and our intentions as well as responsibilities towards them . . . Paying attention to plants is essential to the possibility of conceiving a better, more equitable, and sustainable future.

Antennae: Vegetal Entanglements, July 2020

I very much hope that you will consider contributing a piece for inclusion in the slideshow. Not everything will be able to be included, but all will be recorded and archived as a record of the GATHER project.

The final date for you to send your submission is Friday 30th April 2021.
